Council orders release of teachers' allowance

THE Bacolod City Council approved a resolution authorizing the disbursement of P6,000 per public school teacher or personnel for every quarter as allowances to teachers, chargeable under the “other professional services account” of the General Fund.

The resolution, authored by Councilor Renecito Novero, was approved during the regular session last Wednesday.

Novero, chairperson of committee on education, said public school teachers from both elementary and secondary schools in Bacolod are currently receiving a total of P6,000 per teacher or teaching personnel per quarter.

However, some appointed teachers have not received their allowance, particularly those who receive P2,100 per quarter.

Novero noted the teachers appointed from 1997 and prior years are currently receiving P2,100 per quarter, chargeable to the Special Education Fund (SEF), by virtue of Supreme Court Decision dated May 19, 1999.

He said the teachers appointed from 1998 to the subsequent years are receiving their allowances from the general fund, with some are receiving P3,900 per quarter charged to the “other professional services” account while there are those who are receiving P2,100 per quarter charged from the general professional services account.

Novero added that the teachers in public senior high schools will also receive their allowances. (MAP)
