Councilor asks contractors to hire locals

ANGELES CITY -- Councilor Carmelo Lazatin Jr. recently filed a resolution requesting local contractors to hire laborers from the barangays where the construction site is located.

Lazatin said the resolution applies to all contractors both private and government funded.

The resolution states that all contractors are requested to hire 50 percent of their workforce or laborers from the village where the construction site is located.

Lazatin said hiring local workers will promote employment and will also ensure the security of the construction project.

“Double purpose ang ating resolution. Not only that it will promote local employment, makakasiguro pa ang mga contractors ng security ng project site nila, “ Lazatin said.

The resolution also encourages the barangay and the city administrators to conduct manpower trainings and pooling listing of its skilled and unskilled workers for future employment as construction work force.

“We want to in our own little way, help contribute in the unemployment problem of our city and the whole region,” Lazatin said.

According to a report of the Philippine Statistic Authority dated January 2016, Central Luzon has unemployment rate of 8.9 percent.
