BACOLOD City Councilor Caesar Distrito urged the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) to strictly enforce traffic rules and arrest violators.
Distrito said on Friday, January 26, he received reports that BTAO failed to arrest traffic violators since December 2017, especially motorcycle drivers not wearing helmet and jaywalking violators at the downtown area.
“We should strictly implement the law and all violators should be fined and arrested,” he said.
Distrito pointed out that the implementation of the traffic rules would be best if the BTAO personnel would be consistent on their operations.
Distrito said Superintendent Luisito Acebuche, head of BTAO, should always monitor the deployment of traffic enforcers to arrest the traffic violators.
Acebuche said they are now evaluating the performance of the enforcers to determine if they are doing their assignments.
He added that there is deployment of traffic enforcers in various areas, especially at the downtown area.
Meanwhile, the City Council approved a resolution requesting the BTAO through Mayor Evelio Leonardia to instruct traffic enforcers to refrain from staying in group in middle of the road and spread themselves along the streets.
The resolution, authored by Councilor Ricardo Tan, was approved during the regular session Wednesday.
Tan said the dedication of traffic enforcers to implement traffic rules and regulations as shown by their efforts to do the job they are assigned to, despite the scorching sun and inclement weather, is likewise very much appreciated.
“However, we observed that some of them resort to wrong practice of grouping themselves in the intersection,” he said.
He added there is a need for these traffic enforcers to be conscious of their acts to solve traffic situations and ease up the tension among the drivers and the commuting public.
