Couple on way to Simala Shrine killed in accident with truck

A HUSBAND and wife on their way to Miraculous Shrine of Simala were killed when their motorcycle was sideswiped while trying to overtake a 6-wheeler cargo truck on the national highway of Barangay Langtad, City of Naga yesterday morning.

PO2 Roly Getubig of the Naga City Police said that the couple, identified as Cedrick and Feriola Magallon, died on the spot.

“Their bodies were unrecognizable because of the weight of the truck that ran over them,” Getubig said in Cebuano.

Cedrick was driving the motorcycle with his wife as passenger. They were wearing helmets.

Getubig said that the truck was on its way to the town of San Fernando to deliver sacks of rice when the motorcycle allegedly tried to overtake it.

The victims succumbed to severe injuries in the body when they were ran over by the right rear tire of the cargo truck driven by Marlo Permacio, 33.

The two vehicles were on the same lane when the accident crash happened at past 11 a.m. yesterday.

Getubig said that the son of the victims went to their station and talked to Permacio about the incident for a possible settlement.

Permacio, a native of Negros Occidental but temporarily residing in Lower Pakigne, Minglanilla surrendered to the police.

He is detained in the Naga City Police Station pending the filing of charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide against him.
