CPPO to help probe strafing incident in Talisay jail

THE Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) will help investigate the third strafing incident in the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology's facility in Barangay Maghaway, Talisay City, Cebu, around 3 a.m. Sunday, October 15.

Superintendent Virgilio Bayon-on, the CPPO spokesperson, said they will help identify the culprits and the motive behind their action.

He said they will get the report from Talisay City Police Station.

Superintendent Jason Villamater, the Talisay City police chief, said the incident was reported around 6 a.m. Sunday.

Investigators were able to secure a closed circuit television camera footage that showed a man driving a motorcycle.

The man stopped his motorcycle outside the gate of the city jail. He then opened fire at the gate and fled the area.

Police recovered two empty shells of .9mm pistol in the vicinity of the city jail.

Villamater said it would be difficult to identify the perpetrator as he was wearing a mask and helmet.

He said they could have put up checkpoints if the BJMP personnel had reported the strafing incident right away. (KAL/SunStar Cebu)
