Custodio: First things first

I KNOW it’s the weekend. Yipee!! Summer is here!! We welcome the sunny days and heat with much excitement and fun fare because for it is vacation time!

More so because the Holy Week has come. Much as it is a religious observance that the nation observes, it is a time for families and friends to spend time together and bond with unforgettable memories at the beach or wherever their vacation plans bring us.

Some have actually started their vacations early, as I have been seeing gorgeous travel photos on my social media feed incessantly. Makes me just wanna put clothes in my backpack and just declare my own holiday! But sigh, there are things that need to be done.

There are goals to be met and efficiently accomplished. So the responsibilities (and better judgment) win over fun in the sun and that “you only live once” kinda thing.

“If you wanna live longer, delay the fun in the sun for a bit.” Yep. That’s my conscience telling me to suck it up and act like an adult. Erf.

Adulting is challenging, ei? Huhuhu. So, priorities have to be acknowledged. I know, there are days when you know you just have to let go and follow what your heart and mind tells you. Nothing can be more soothing than to be able to disengage from the rat race and just chill to your heart’s content!

Of course we are allowed to indulge ourselves once in awhile for uh, the sake of sanity, but not all of us have the privilege of taking vacations ad libitum. We can wish and dream that we could but well, not really. Sigh. And did I mention the sometimes gargantuan task of prioritizing priorities?

We get overwhelmed by things that need to get done. Which one do we do first? It goes without saying we are likely to do the ones that need the most attention first, but if we had a choice to really choose, which would you do first?

There are many answers to this question, actually. Let’s see. Bigger tasks first. It makes sense. You do the heavier tasks first so that when you get things done, then you would have jumped over a major hurdle. That certainly would feel good, I bet.

It would be a breath of relief to accomplish bigger things. The sense of fulfilment directly proportional to the task at hand! Only that usually these can take a lot of time too. And maybe a lot of waiting may be required as well. So why not do the little things first? Do small things because they add up and become big things.

Oh, I’m sure you’ve heard that line before. It is also true. And works. Works even better if you are the type who doesn’t like to wait. This will be a good diversion for antsiness plus, you end up getting a lot of things done.

One might mistake it for multitasking (and maybe it is), but as long as you are realistically accomplishing your smaller goals before the big ones reach fruition, then why not?

There is no harm trying to get things done as long as you don’t stress needlessly about it!

Do as you please.

Well, this works too. When you don’t want to get stressed about the stuff you need to do then by all means, do the ones you really want to do first!

As you may already know, things you do that you like, you actually finish faster! Go ahead! Just make sure that you do not dwell too much doing it.

We do have the tendency to lose track of time when we’re having fun right? Be mindful! In the grand scheme of things, we all need to figure out what will work best for us.

The same formula may not always work all the time so a little creativity and imagination should always come in handy! That being said, figure out your most effective template and start with that.

I find it most effective starting with the smaller things because they’re usually the easiest and fastest to do. I assess and reassess my progress regularly so that I can adjust my pace and focus accordingly.

It helps to develop a habit of dealing with things because as you go along, they become second nature. Things eventually get easier. You can always wing it when the need arises!

Do remember that breaks are always welcome in between, just don’t make it too long and do it after you’ve already finished something!

Happy Sunday!! :)
