Customs sets seminar for port stakeholders

A TOP official of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) announced they have scheduled to conduct a seminar-workshop to update all the stakeholders of the agency on the existing and new customs laws.

BOC district collector Halleck Valdez said the seminar, which is scheduled to be held Friday, February 24, will focus the rules and regulations on rice importation in his area of responsibility.

Valdez’ office has jurisdiction over Western Mindanao region that comprises Zamboanga City and the provinces of Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga Sibugay, Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi.

Western Mindanao serves as entry point of imported rice from Malaysia.

Valdez said through the seminar, the importers, exporters and other port users will be updated as to their duties and obligations under existing customs tariffs and law.

He said Customs Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon will be the guest of honor during the seminar.

Valdez said they have also invited other top BOC officials to serve as among the resource speakers during the seminar. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
