Dabawenyos celebrate International Babywearing Week

SOME 250 parents celebrated the 3rd Davao International Babywearing Week organized by Dawow Moms, a local Facebook group of mommies who advocates natural parenting methods last October 8 at the University of Southeastern Philippines, Davao City.

The event was opened by City Health Office head Dr. Josephine Villafuerte, sharing Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio's inspirational message to fellow Babywearing parents.

"It's a good way of educating mothers because the convenience with babywearing allows them to execute their tasks well and efficiently," she added.

Members from Central 911, Jerymy Jan Carlo Yu, Mary Kris Joy Manuel, Mark Anthon Cabarubbias, and Crispin Fabracuer Jr. also shared their expertise in emergency child care and CPR.

The highlight of the event was the Babywearing talked by a Dawow Mom's admin, Karen Alconga, sharing the importance and basics of babywearing that benefited pregnant moms and new parents that attended the event.

Moms and babies were able to enjoy the momba (mommy Zumba) led by Faith Anne Mae Tahura, Jessa Sumagaysay and Brenda Mae Estorba.

The parents also enjoyed games and raffles, carrier station where moms could try different types of carriers, and booths from mompreneurs such as Shadrach's collection, Sun Life financial, IMA (In My Arms), Tempra pH, Fayery Concepts, Storked Ph and Cycles.

"I always attend and help in organizing this event because it's a way for us parents to deviate from stress and just simply relate to each other", Faith Anne Mae Tahura said in an interview.

"We hope that next year's event would be bigger and more parents would appreciate the benefit of Babywearing, we are also looking forward to our flash mob that would happened by the end of the year", Karen Alconga shared with her closing message. (Axel May L. Clapano)
