Davao Anti-trafficking council to conduct mural painting

THE Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (Iacat) will conduct a mural painting on November 11 in a bid to strengthen its awareness campaign against trafficking in person through the incorporation of arts.

Regional Secretary Alma Acera of Iacat, a group composed of different government agencies with a unified drive in countering trafficking cases, said they are now tapping Davao artists for the "first brush" on the wall outside Southern Philippines Medical Center Psychiatric Department along J.P Laurel Avenue.

Acera said the theme of the mural will be light but meaningful to clearly and effectively convey the message of their advocacy.

"Siyempre mga concerns sa trafficking and theme niya. We want to emphasize the look of a community that is free from abuse and free from human trafficking," Acera told SunStar Davao.

The agency is currently negotiating with a paint company to sponsor the activity.

The mural painting is part of Iacat's ongoing campaign to address the plight of trafficked victims through creating an interesting visual landscape in the city and to showcase the talents of the artists and designers.

Since it will be visible to the public, the artists will undergo an orientation on what would be the picture that will be painted considering the sensitivity of the issue.

"We want the piece of artwork easier to comprehend to clearly represent to the people our advocacy since it will serve as our advocacy material," Acera ended. (JCR)
