Davao City exports up by 22% in 1st quarter

EXPORTS made by Davao City for the first quarter of 2017 increased by 22.30 percent with $595.9 million from $487.22 million same period last year.

For this year, Iraq and Malaysia make it to the top export destinations of Davao City with both of them not included in the last year’s data.

Among the other top export destinations are Japan, China, and Korea, according to the data provided by the Davao City Investment and Promotions Center (DCIPC).

First quarter of 2016, United States and the Netherlands were included in the top export destinations but weren’t able to make it for first quarter 2017.

Top products exported by Davo City include banana, coconut oil, desiccated coconut, and gold with silver. These are the same top commodities for export during the first quarter 2016 as well.

This data parallels with the regional export data provided by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Davao Region with banana being the top export commodity together with pineapple and coconut oil.

Earlier report also revealed a 67.6 percent increase in the overall export trade of the entire Davao Region.

Davao City import

As export value for Davao City increased for the first quarter of 2017, so did the city’s imports as well. From $356.44 million during first quarter 2016 to $474.75 million first quarter 2017, imports made by Davao City increased by 33.19 percent.

Most of these imported commodities include mineral fuels, oils, and waxes, fertilizers, paper or paperboard, articles of paper pulp, nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances and cereals. (JPA)
