Davao City gears for youth world camp

DAVAO City is gearing for the upcoming three-day International Youth Fellowship (IYF) World Camp slated February 8 to 12 at the University of Southeastern Philippines (Usep) in Davao City.

With the theme "Bring the Change! Be the Youth Leader with a heart," Korean national IYF secretary general Gi Chun Cho said the purpose of the IYF is to cultivate the heart of the youth and help them be responsible.

"This is not a religious activity. All our programs are designed to cultivate the hearts of the youth and bring them closer to their own culture and learn other's culture since they will be meeting many people," Gi said.

Gi also said that it is also important for the youth to realize that they have to work for themselves and for their future.

Gi added that the camp consists of different activities which would focus on academic, sports, and culture.

The highlight of the camp is the "Mind Lecture" that aims to mold the minds of their participants through a classroom-type discussion. Around 5,000 youth are expected to join the camp in Davao City.

Of the 5,000 participants, there are 4,000 delegates from Usep, 500 additional students who will be endorsed by the Davao City Government and some foreign delegates from other countries who have already registered.

The IYF World Camp in Davao City will be a joint effort of Usep, Davao City Government and IYF.

After the world camp, a musical play entitled "Christmas Cantata" will also be held at the Usep Gymnasium around 3 p.m.
