Davao City hopes water district will pursue septage, sewerage project

THE Davao City Government is set to inquire from the Davao City Water District (DCWD) their proposal for the development of the septage and sewerage project in the city, Assistant City Administrator Tristan Dwight Domingo said.

He added there is no date yet but the city is set to inquire if DCWD is still interested to build the project.

“Hopefully they will give favorable response and that will be the time that we will sit down with them and iron out everything to push the project because the city needs it,” he said.

Domingo said the City Government and the DCWD must iron out some legal issues with the construction of the project.

He said the Department of Health reported that bad state of water was observed in sea and river waters surrounding the city.

“There are plans to really seriously and specifically address the particular problem,” the assistant city administrator said.

Based on reports, the DCWD recently deferred its plan to pursue the four-zone septage project following recommendation of the City Council to build sewerage system.

The government-controlled utility earlier planned to set up septage project in four zones, particularly in the north, south, Poblacion and Toril areas. It also planned to allocate an initial funding of P300 million to cover 65 barangays.

A septic plant, which was proposed to collect 240 cubic meters of septic waste a day, was aimed to address the improper disposal of human wastes.

The DCWD spokesperson said feasibility study for the sewerage system is still underway.

Meanwhile, Domingo, in the same interview, said recently an official from Japan International Cooperation Agency also expressed their intention to give technical support in the city in doing such project.
