THREE days after the Roxas night market blast in Davao City on Friday night, September 2, Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio suffered a miscarriage, losing two of her triplets.
At the change of command ceremony at Task Force Davao office at 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 8, Duterte-Carpio said she lost two of the triplets in her womb, but luckily enough, the other one is "still fighting for life."
"When I went for a check-up last Monday, the doctor said (two of the triplets) don't have heartbeats anymore," Duterte said.
When the city mayor was busy visiting the wake of the victims of the bloody explosion on Monday dawn, she said she was already feeling a bit ill.
Her physician then informed her of the fatal demise of the two of her triplets.
On August 19, City Information Office (CIO) Head Jefry Tupas announced her pregnancy was the reason behind her series of leaves of absence.
Her physician advised her to "avoid crowded places to lessen the chances of acquiring infections".
After the Roxas night market blast the city mayor was back on her foot again, monitoring the injured and the families of the 14 who died from the bombing.
During change of command ceremony at the TFD Headquarters in Davao City, on Thursday, the city mayor asked the new Task Force Davao Commander Colonel Erwin Bernard Neri to give her peace of mind.
"Colonel Neri, kindly give me peace of mind for the next nine months, although I have 6 more months of my pregnancy, but consider this day as my first day -- Please do not kill him (child in her womb)," she said.
Duterte-Carpio relieved Robinson following a deadly explosion that hit the Roxas night market last Friday evening and replaced him with Colonel Erwin Bernard Neri as TFD chief.
It can be recalled that last August 19, Duterte-Carpio announced publicly through an official statement that she could not join in the Kadayawan Festival celebration due to her “triplets” pregnancy.
