Davao City needs 100 CCTV cameras

THE Davao City Public Safety Security Command Center (PSSCC) sees the need for the city to acquire 100 closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras to ensure the security of the public.

In Wednesday's Armed Forces of the Philippines-Philippine National Police press conference at Davao City Police Office's (DCPO) conference room, PSSCC head retired General Benito de Leon said there are more areas that need improvement.

De Leon said there is a need to install more CCTV cameras in high convergence area, in traffic area, and areas wherein people flock including Roxas Avenue, People's Park, and other public areas.

"I am satisfied so far with CCTV coverage here but there is as usual large area here that would need improvement. So merong subsequent recommendations para sa seguridad ng lahat," de Leon said.

He said that the 100 more cameras will definitely cover the blind spot areas of the city. He added that aside from land areas, there is also a need to install cameras in coastal areas.

Davao City Police Office (DCPO) director Senior Superintendent Michael John Dubria urged city establishments to install high-resolution CCTV cameras as this can help authorities in terms of emergencies.

"The CCTVs have been a very big help. Hopefully more of the business establishments will install high-resolution CCTV cameras, because most of the cameras we recovered were either defective or low resolution," Dubria said.

Aside from putting up more CCTV cameras, de Leon said, security forces also discussed the rationalization of the checkpoints, to have police and military visibility, and more mobile patrols.

"We have to ask the patience of the public if they are being checked, because this is for everyone's security. We want to ensure the public that when we are entering Davao, we are in the safe place," de Leon said.
