Davao City submits resolution for national ID card system

WITH the proliferation of fake identification (ID) in the city, the Davao City Peace and Order Council submitted a resolution to the Office of the President to come up with a national ID card system.

Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio said on Monday, May 29, that to ensure a person’s real identity, the National Government should come up with an ID that can’t easily be faked.

“I believe it is now possible with the present technology we have. They should do something about the manufacturing of fake IDs especially we (Mindanao) are under Martial Law now,” she said.

The resolution was made last Friday, May 26. It was also forwarded to the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Department of National Defense.

The council came up with resolution following the outcome of the recent “Oplan Bulabog,” a surprise operation in several villages in the city to check the identities of the residents.

Davao City Police Office Director Alexander Tagum told reporters on Friday, May 26, that based on their intelligence report, more than 1,000 individuals have resorted to counterfeit IDs in different printing press in the city.

Duterte-Carpio cited that some are manufacturing counterfeit IDs in their houses even without printing presses.

At present, the city law enforcement units have been conducting thorough inspection and bio profiling on the identity of suspected persons, who are involved in local terrorist groups.

The mayor said the National Bureau of Investigation is also conducting operations to counter these illegal activities.
