Davao City to build 2 new flyovers

A DAVAO CITY government official Thursday, January 12, announced the construction of two more flyovers as the alternative way to curb the worsening traffic condition in Davao City.

This announcement followed after the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) approved the request of Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio to construct more flyovers in the city.

City Planning and Development head Ivan Cortez said the mayor originally requested to construct four flyovers but only two were approved by the DPWH based on the study.

"We will have two additional flyovers, one in Matina Crossing and another in Toril. This project will be done under the term of the incumbent mayor Inday," Cortez said.

He said the construction of these flyovers will start this year, adding that the details on the design and specifications will be provided to them next week.

Cortez clarified that the budget for the flyovers is separate from the P14-billion allocation for the infrastructure projects. The construction of the flyover is expected to start this year.

Aside from the flyovers, Cortez said, the DPWH also plans to create a mini-bypass in Ulas for motorists and commuters who want to directly pass through diversion road.
