Davao City to give solar panels to 12 hinterland schools

DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio approved P970,000 worth solar panels to be installed to 12 schools in Malabog District.

The solar panels will be utilized by the Baluyo Elementary School, Beton Elementary School, Binatos Elementary School, Don Mariano Elementary School, Kapihan Elementary School, Malambo-on Elementary School, Pamantawan Elementary School, Sta. Maria Elementary School, Bola Elementary School, Sumilop Elementary School, Tapak Elementary School.

City Councilor Pilar Braga, a member of the Local School Board (LSB), in her privilege speech on Tuesday, July 18, said the panels will be worth P80,000 each.

"Sila yung doon nawala pa masyadong nabigyan ng power, and talagang (They were those who have no power supply and) they are very far. They really need some power through solar panel," Braga said.

She said the fund will be sourced from the Special Education Fund of the LSB.

"Nagcle-clearing na sila ngayon (maybe magagamit) within five months or before the school ends (They are now conducting clearing of the area, hopefully it can be used within five months or before the school ends)," she said.

Apart from the solar panels, P25-million budget for 16 classrooms at Tugbok Central Elementary School and P25-million budget for the construction of a three-storey classroom at Bago Oshiro Elementary School were also approved by the mayor. (KVC)
