Davao City to relaunch social entrep program

THE Mag-Negosyo Ta Day project of Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio is targeted to be relaunched this year as part of her Biyaheng Do30 projects, a city official said.

City Planning and Development Office (CPDO) head Ivan Cortez, who was a guest during Wednesday's Business Forum at Dermpath, SM City Davao, disclosed the different priority projects that Mayor Sara will be implementing within her term.

One of these is the revival of the Mag-Negosyo Ta Day, a project aimed at developing social entrepreneurship of Dabawenyas. The program is a joint project of Gender Office and City Mayor’s Office, under the Chief of Staff Office.

“Mag-Negosyo Ta Day will prioritize beneficiaries that are women,” said Cortez adding that this project was first realized during Mayor Sara’s term in 2010 to 2013 and is being revived again today due to its noted success.

Though there are no specific beneficiaries qualified yet, a P35 million seed fund will be allocated for the entirety of the project.

The initial concept will be four different women comprising a group. Each individual should have a business concept in mind. The budget will be given for the implementation of the first woman’s business project while her other three teammates will help her boost it up until such time the second business plan is ready to be realized. This would be rotational for all four of them.

Last year, chief of the Integrated Gender Development Division (IGDD) and former Mag-Negosyo Ta Day management staff Lorna Mandin pushed for the revival of the project and said it would be a total waste to let an effective program evaporate when there are interested beneficiaries.

She also said the program is already established and identified active participants and beneficiaries from community-based organized women, village-based micro-entrepreneurs, and some members of the Indigenous Peoples.

Revival of the project is still on its planning stages. (JPA)
