Davao City's PUV drivers' ID to have QR code

DO YOU have any complaint against a public utility vehicle (PUV) driver? Just snap the quick response (QR) Code and file your complaint.

New identification (ID) cards for public utility drivers to be issued by the Davao City Government will feature QR codes to facilitate reporting of traffic violations.

Davao City Transportation and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) head Dionisio Abude, in a media forum last week, said that the QR code is placed in the ID.

“This is the first time in Davao because it is made by our Davao City Information Technology, they made the system,” Abude said.

He added that the QR code can be scanned through an application downloaded in the Google Playstore.

“The passenger can take the picture of the code, and then scan it to reveal the driver’s identity, the ID number and the date of the issuance. There is also a space to leave a message if the passenger wants to file a complaint,” he said.

Abude said that the passengers can also leave their cellphone numbers so that the CTTMO can update them on their complaints.

He said that through the QR code, the traffic personnel on field can also easily detect how many violations were already committed by the driver.

Abude said that they have already released almost 19,000 Public Utility Vehicle Identification cards and there are almost 8,000 Ids left unclaimed.

He said that unclaimed IDs possibly belonged to those who do not have presented franchise of their vehicle.

“Franchise is part of the requirements for the release of Id, this is according to the Traffic Code,” he said.

Abude explained that during driver’s education, they have included every driver not only those who have franchise to undergo seminars and training.

“The main purpose was to educate them on safety driving, proper behavior and also traffic signalization,” he said.

Each driver needs to undergo the training before they will be issued with ID.

The CTTMO head said that they eye to start apprehension for those who do not have IDs starting April 1, and advised drivers to secure IDs before the date.

He also said that they are now hiring 250 more personnel in their office and they plan to deploy those newly-hired personnel on April 1, in time for the start of the apprehension for drivers without ID.

Abude added that those who were caught without IDs will pay a fine of P1,000.
