Davao health center treats over 200 HIV patients

THE Reproductive Health and Wellness Center (RHWC) in Davao City is now helping more than 200 patients for treatment of Human-Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), which can lead to Acute Immunodeficiency Syndrome (Aids) if left untreated.

RHWC Head Dr. Jordana Ramiterre, in an interview last week, said that since February 2016, a number of patients sought help from their office.

“To date, I have 200 plus patients since February 2016, it has no cure so there will be a time they will be getting treatment monthly or quarterly,” she said.

rRamiterre said that majority of those who are now seeking treatment are males but there are also limited number of females.

“I think I have a few females - less than five. Some of them get access [to] drugs in other areas and in hospital,” she said, adding that Davao Doctors Hospital is also eyed to be a treatment hub.

The RHWC, aside from its treatment component, also have prevention and education programs and testing.

Ramittere said that the DOH recorded 79 new cases in the month of January to February 2017. (KVC)
