Davao hosts FEDBOP nationals for third year in a row

DAVAO City is all set to host the 38th FEDBOP Annual National Duckpin Bowling Championships to be held at the Mega Dover Lanes slated April 20 to 25 next year.

Sunday Bowlers Club (SBC) board of director Emie Orteza bared this during his guesting in the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the NCCC Mall Davao Food Cove Function Hall on Friday.

"This is the third consecutive year that Davao City has been selected as the host venue for the 38th FEDBOP after Kidapawan City backed out from its original bid to host annual bowlfest due to lack of support from the Local Government Unit (LGU)," Orteza said.

Orteza said that he is expecting a lot teams for next year's competition, adding, "Mas daghan mi ug ginaexpect sa tournament next year kay taas ta man ang time para magprepare sa ilang teams na makapractice (More teams are expected to join in next year's competition especially they've given more time to practice as a team)."

A total of P400,000 plus a trophy will be at stake for the winning team.

Orteza also said that they are hoping for Manila-based teams to participate in the bowlfest.

"I have already submitted a proposal to the city government of Davao through the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office (SDD-CMO), expecting for a good response and support for our tournament," Orteza added.

Orteza said the Davao City Bowlers Association (Daciba) will be the group again for the tournament.

"We are also thinking to make a revenue out from the tournament by organizing side events such as raffle prizes and by selling souvenir items during the duration of the event," Orteza said.

The bowlfest was organized in cooperation with the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).

Orteza, meanwhile, said that the 2014 SBC Mayor Rody and Vice Mayor Pulong Duterte Pamaskong Handog Open Bowling tournament is set to open on December 9, Tuesday at the Fair Lanes Bowling Center.

The six-games elimination series with over 20 participating teams will be vying for the P30,000 prizes along with trophies.

Mayor Duterte is expected to grace the opening ceremony of the event.

Orteza added that he is thankful for the support of the City Government of Davao especially to Mayor Duterte and Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte and executive assistant Christopher Go.
