Davao Optima outlasts rival

WOMEN'S defending champion Davao Optima opened its title-retention bid, escaping with a 19-25, 25-12, 25-14 win over the University of Mindanao (UM) Tagum College in the resumption of the 2nd Abreeza Kadayawan Open Volleyball Tournament at the Abreeza Mall parking lot over the weekend.

Davao Optima, thus, entered the winning column of women's pool A of the volleyfest officiated by the Balibolista de Dabaw.

The UM Tagum men's spikers, however, turned back San Pedro College (SPC), 25-11, 25-17, in men's pool A while UM Davao demolished Medical Mission Group College (MMGC) of General Santos City, 25-22, 25-21 in men's pool B.

Meanwhile, the Jose Maria College (JMC) volleybelles spanked Philippine National Police (PNP), 25-22, 25-21 to claim their debut win in women's pool B.

Games will resume this weekend in the event that attracted 20 teams.

It is part of the 30th Kadayawan sa Dabaw Sports Festival but is sponsored by the Abreeza Mall.
