THE Davao City Police Office (DCPO) warned the public against scammers who used the name of their office in extorting money, urging Dabawenyos to immediately report to authorities if they encountered such unscrupulous scheme.
DCPO director Police Senior Superintendent Alexander Tagum advised the public to be on guard and be wary against impostors pretending to be him to extort money.
"Please be warned, do not believe callers claiming to be me- who will later order for services like installation of carpets and blinds and lately food stuff amounting to thousands of peso to mesmerize them into giving in, to request of emergency cellphone loads amounting to thousands with a promise of payment later," he said.
His office has been receiving reports that there are people who have called them seeking money or cellphone loads under his name, however, he denied initiating these transactions.
He noted that this is only another form of scam and people should not fall prey.
This is not the first time that this incident happened to DCPO as former city director Police Senior Superintendent Michael John Dubria also encountered the same issue.
"Scammers have previously used the name of past city directors of Davao City Police Office to deceive local businessmen and even their close associates and friends of large amount of cellphone loads. Recently, my name and that of my present position is again being used to deceive people," Tagum said.
Meanwhile, Tagum reminded the public if in case an unidentified caller tries to contact them, they should "resist and don't give in".
