Davao police warn public against swindlers during the holidays

THE Davao City Police Office (DCPO) warned the public against swindlers who usually strike during the holiday season.

According to DCPO spokesperson Senior Inspector Catherine dela Rey, they have recorded 32 cases of Estafa (swindling) from the month of August until October this year, and it is expected to rise this December.

"Mag-igmat gyud ta aron malikayan nato kini nga hitabo, kay Disyembre daghanog bonus, daghan sab ang mangilad (We should be alert so that we can avoid being scammed. Swindlers know people have Christmas bonuses, so they are prepared to con as many)," dela Rey said.

The most number of swindling reported are perpetrated through social media such as Facebook and online marketing.

"There are many online sales. Items displayed on picture look to be of good quality when it is actually of low quality when finally delivered. In short, they are fake items,” dela Rey said.

For online deals from unknown sites, the best option is always cash on delivery.

"COD is better so that we can avoid being victimized by sending cash but without assurance whether we would receive the item we are purchasing,” she said.
