Davao Region 2016 3rd-quarter exports up by 40.6%

EXPORTS in the Davao Region increased by 40.6 percent during the third quarter of 2016 to 437.70 million US dollars (USD) from USD 311.25 million of the same year.

Data from the regional office of the Philippine Statistics Office-Davao showed that fresh or dried bananas, including plantains, remains to be the number one export commodity in the region. The region exported a total of 124.73 million kilograms or USD 278.17 million worth of bananas.

Fresh or dried pineapples came in second with a total value of USD 63.81 million. This is followed by tunas, skipjack, and bonito, whole or in pieces, but not minced at USD 13.15 million.

The fourth largest export commodity in the region is desiccated coconut at USD 8.78 million. Rounding up the top five most exported commodities from the region is tungsten, ores and concentrate, at USD 8 million.

Also among the ten most exported commodities of the region are natural rubber in other forms (USD 7.82 million), other fruits like lychees and mangoes (USD 7.34 million), activated carbon of coconut-shell based (USD 6.55 million), other recovered paper or paperboard (USD 4.47 million), and Yellow Fin tunas (USD 3.15 million).

Japan remains to be the number one export destination of the commodities from Davao Region at USD 111.81 million.

Other major export destinations for the region include China (USD 88.89 million), South Korea (USD 79.41 million), United Arab Emirates (USD 24.29 million), Iran (USD 21.96 million), Malaysia (USD 11.76 million), Hong Kong (USD 11.58 million), United States (USD 11.12 million), Kuwait (USD 10.69 million), and Saudi Arabia (USD 9.98 million).
