EMPLOYMENT rate in Davao Region is estimated to be at 95.1 percent in April 2017 from 94.7 percent in the same period last year according to the preliminary data from the April 2017 Labor Force Survey (LFS).
Data from the Philippine Statistic Authority's (PSA) April 2017 LFS also showed that labor force participation has increase to 64 percent from 62 percent.
Unemployment rate has also decreased 4.9 percent from 5.3 percent while underemployment rate went up to 17.3 percent from 16.6 percent.
It can also be noted that according to the latest LFS, employment rate throughout Mindanao has also increased. Zamboanga Peninsula's (Western Mindanao) employment rate went up to 97.5 percent in April 2017 from 95.8 percent in the same period last year. The region also posted the highest employment rate in all of Mindanao.
The Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao's (Armm) employment rate increased to 97.4 percent from 95.5 percent. Employment rate in Soccsksargen was at 95.7 percent from 94 percent and Northern Mindanao was at 94.6 percent from 94.3 percent.
PSA also reported that the national employment rate increased to 94.3 percent in April 2017 from 93.9 percent in the same period last year.
"Regions with lowest employment rates were Ilocos Region (89.6 percent), National Capital Region (NCR) (92.8 percent), and Calabarzon (92.9 percent)," PSA said in a statement.
Meanwhile, regions with the highest employment rates were Zamboanga Peninsula, Armm, Cagayan Valley (96.8 percent), Eastern Visayas (96.2 percent), and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) (95.9 percent).
"The labor force participation rate (LFPR) in April 2017 was estimated at 61.4 percent given the labor force population of 69.6 million. The LFPR in April 2016 was 63.5 percent. The labor force population consists of the employed and the unemployed 15 years old and over," PSA said.
Data also showed that the services sector employs more than half of the country's workers at 55.4 percent but this rate was a declined from the 56.3 percent the previous year.
Workers from the agriculture sector in the second largest group at 26.1 percent of the total employed, an increase from last year's 25.5 percent.
Workers in the industry sector made up the smallest group registering only 18.5 percent of the total employed, which is a minimal increase from last year's 18.2 percent.
Results from the LFS also showed that the underemployment rate, which is the percentage of the underemployed to the total employed, was at 16.1 percent compared to the 18.3 percent in the previous year.
Regions with the highest underemployment rate are Eastern Visayas (24 percent), Zamboanga Peninsula (23.6 percent), Caraga (23.3 percent), Bicol Region (23.2 percent), and Mimaropa (22.1 percent).
The unemployment rate in April 2017 was recorded at 5.7 percent compared to 6.1 percent last year.
Ilocos Region posted tha highest unemployment rate at 10.4 percent, followed by CAR (7.2 percent), Calabarzon (7.1 percent), Central Luzon (6.7 percent), and Western Visayas (5.8 percent).
