AROUND 300 enforcers will be deputized to issue citation tickets to traffic violators in Davao City starting September 11.
Davao City Transportation and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) Head Retired Senior Superintendent Dionisio Abude told SunStar on Sunday, September 3, that an estimated 300 traffic enforcers were chosen to hold citation tickets to implement the city’s Comprehensive Transport and Traffic Code.
“Gi-train nato ang mga enforcer na i-deputize maggunit sa ticket, almost 300 nag-qualify out of 446 (We have trained the enforcers to be deputized, those who will hold the citation tickets, there were almost 300 who qualified out of 446),” he said.
Abude added that the issuance of citation tickets next week won’t need any legislation since the provisions of the City Ordinance 778 also known as the Comprehensive Transport and Traffic Code of Davao City were passed last 2012, and its Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) came out in 2015.
Abude said that the citation tickets were already printed and ready for use.
He said that the tickets will not only cover pedestrians who will be caught violating the Anti-Jaywalking ordinance but also the drivers and establishment owners who will violate the traffic code.
He added that tickets will be issued to drivers that will be caught unloading and loading in the wrong area, wrong parking, overspeeding, among others.
Establishment owners, Abude said, will be handed citation tickets if they will be caught obstructing the roads with their goods or putting up traffic signs without any permission from the CTTMO.
Moreover, pedestrians will be issued citation tickets if they will be caught crossing in an area without pedestrian lane or crossing pedestrian lane but not following the road signs.
Exempted in the Anti-Jaywalking law are the children below 15 years old, senior citizens and persons with disabilities.
Abude, added that the penalty will vary per violation.
“It depends on the violation. The truck ban has a P1,000-penalty, those who are caught violating pedestrian rules will be fined P100, while the driver who violates the rules within the pedestrian lane, such as blocking pedestrian crossing shall pay P200,” he said.
He said that a grace period of seven days will be given to anyone issued with tickets.
“They are given seven days to settle it, and we will initiate the filing of a case if they won’t comply. We will also alarm Land Transportation Office (LTO) of the violators so that they cannot immediately renew their license wherever in the Philippines, even if they are in Cotabato, Samar, Luzon, they cannot renew their license as they will be blocked by the LTO,” Abude said.
He added that the City Government can also initiate in filing a case against violators before the City Prosecution Office.
