Davao truck ban amendment proposal set

DAVAO City Councilor Conrado Baluran will propose to the City Council on Tuesday a resolution to amend the truck ban from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

"Wala nay mga dagkong trucks from six wheelers and above (Six wheeler trucks and above will already be banned)," Baluran said after the committee hearing with stakeholders on the proposed amendment of truck ban held at third floor of the City Council building last Friday.

He said trucks from Digos and Toril will stop in Dumoy before the crossing going to Mergrande and those from the north side will stop near Davao Oil and Copra Mill.

"We intend to decongest the Panacan bridge and public market because it is where traffic build up usually occurs," Baluran said.

As for those coming from Bukidnon and Calinan area, they will stop at Almacen in Catalunan Pequeno.

Baluran said this measure aims to help solve the city's traffic problems.

He added he will pass the said resolution on Tuesday to replace the imposed traffic ban from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.

He also said that he plans to craft resolution requesting the offices of the Davao City Planning and Development Office, the Office of the City Transportation and Traffic Management office and the Davao City Assesor's Office to inspect city streets that are occupied by urban dwellers.

"We need to have political will on the squatters. We will find areas where they can transfer so that we can use these roads," he said.

He also said that he will request for the agencies to look into government streets which are turned into basketball courts. (KVC)
