De Leon: 9 signs that you are a Filipino millennial

OUR generation has been defined in so many languages, by different races, in different ways.

But here are some probable signs that will tell you that you - yes you - are a proud Filipino millennial.

9. You're pissed when they bash or put stereotypes on millennials.

Besides the fact that it bothers you when they can't even spell it right, you hate it when you know our older counterparts are insinuating something - “Ah millennial kasi.”

8. You're so chuffed with anything handmade, artisan or organic.

You love things that were crafted artistically and with extra effort - handcrafted, hand pressed and hand stitched. It's an added point if the product is extracted from green or plant-based materials.

7. You believe in local and start-up brands.

On top of the hashtags #chooselocal and #ProudPinoy, you do patronize these products and support young entrepreneurs.

6. #Hustle and #Grind is life.

So you have your usual day job, but you also have part time and semi-part time (and maybe semi-semi) side hustles. Thus, you're very much familiar with sites like UpWork, 99designs and Essays.Ph. More so, it's your pipeline dream to ditch the 9 to 6 schedule and work more flexibly.

5. You're a certify ally of #LoveWins.

It does not matter if you are female, male, minority or alien, but you consider yourself as a solid ally who will stand for LGBTQ+ rights no matter what happens on God's green earth.

4. (It's not that you don't one but) Life goes on with or without a romantic relationship.

Ahhh. Yeah. That's pretty much it. Next please.

3. You genuinely care about God's green earth.

You've seen enough videos on YouTube that made you cringe. Thus, you're starting to be influenced to ditch out plastic straws and anything that can hurt turtles and other animals.

2. You’d rather travel than buy material things.

Contrary to our image of being obsessed with overrated perfumes and coffee shops, lots of young people are going out their comfort zones to experience that sought after authentic meal and that exotic nature destination to learn something new because we believe that as we explore new places and new people, we get to know ourselves even more.

1. You believe that life's more than the corporate ladder.

It's not that a good salary, a fancy car or a job title do not mean anything to you. But you tend to quit jobs to start passion projects and (Bahala na si Batman!) pursue what would make you truly happy.

So, on a scale of 1 to Panatang Makabayan, how Filipino millennial are you?
