Death toll in Alegria car crash still at 7

CEBU CITY (Updated) -- Police on Sunday corrected an earlier statement that two more have died in Saturday's vehicular accident in Alegria, Cebu.

Town police chief Senior Inspector Efren Diaz said that the two are now in stable condition including another who were admitted with some injuries in a private hospital in Cebu City on Saturday night.

Admitted were Elenita Rubio, Leonor Tsai and Fred Tsai.

On Saturday noon, a van carrying Filipino-American doctors and nurses rammed into a mahogany tree in Barangay Legaspi, Alegria, while on the way to Kawasan Falls in Badian, Cebu.

Six died on the spot while another one died in a public hospital.

They were Aurora Gagni, Joseph Huang, Juvella Huang, Nunilo Rubio, Rey Pascual and Berniti Rojas. Diana Pascual died at the Malabuyoc District Hospital.

The driver survived and is now held at the Alegria Police Station awaiting charges of reckless imprudence resulting to multiple homicide and serious physical injuries.
