Defense chief: Marawi crisis may end this week

DEFENSE Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said since the deadline of liberation of Marawi was not pushed on Independence, they are confident that it may end within the week.

Lorenza said that the promised "Independence Day" deadline was not achieved noting a lot of deaths from the troops.

He also said the President is considering the crafting of rehabilitation plans.

"Actually ang pinag-uusapan namin ni presidente ang rehabilitation nga kasi we believe na malapit na itong matapos," Lorenzana said.

He said the rehabilitation of the city is a major concern especially on the infrastructure, water systems, public school buildings, schools and houses, which will be rebuilt for the residents to have normal lives in the area.

Recently, Presidential Spokesman Ernesto Abella announced that the draft of the Executive Order for the rehabilitation of Marawi only needs the signature of the President.

Lorenzana said Executive Order Bangon Marawi will involve all agencies that will help in Marawi's rehabilitation.

He said the Engineering Brigade is ready to conduct initial inspection and assessment of damage of homes and establishments in Marawi.

He said they want to know what form of repairs the establishments will need in the area.

"Sinasabi ko naman kay President na we have to help the civilians repair their homes which were destroyed during the operations," he said.
