Dela Rosa: Kuratong Baleleng 'planning retaliation'

PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) Chief Ronald Dela Rosa said Monday that an armed group allegedly related to the Parojinog clan is planning to seek revenge against the cops who took part in the operation that resulted in the killing of Ozamiz City Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog Sr.

"May mga information na meron daw dalawang bangka na naggaling sa Kolambugan or sa Lanao del Norte na papunta raw sa Ozamiz para reresbak," he said.

The Kuratong Baleleng is a criminal group allegedly involved in robbery, extortion and kidnapping and was founded by Mayor Parojinog's father, Octavio "Ongkoy" Parojinog Sr.

Mayor Parojinog was among the 16 persons killed when the joint elements of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and Ozamiz police raided the Parojinog compound on July 30.

Dela Rosa said he advised Ozamiz City police chief Jovie Espenido to challenge the group who reportedly wanted to retaliate.

He also urged the Parojinogs to file charges against Espenido and produce evidences that his group planted evidences against them and that they intentionally killed Mayor Parojinog.

Meantime, Dela Rosa said Espenido will remain as Ozamiz police chief amid the killings of local government officials who were among President Rodrigo Duterte's narco-list in his areas of jurisdiction.

Dela Rosa also confirmed that Espenido will be one of the awardees in the Police Service Anniversary on Wednesday.

However, he clarified it will not because of the Ozamiz raid but for his accomplishments on the government's intensified campaign against illegal drugs. (SunStar Philippines)
