Delos Reyes aims to complete AFC 'A' certification

DABAWENYA coach Rachelle "Ching" Delos Reyes aims to complete the Asian Football Confederation 'A' Coaching Certificate Course after finishing Part 1 recently in Manila.

She attended the first part of the course handled by AFC instructors Marlon Maro and Ariston Caslib.

Delos Reyes, an official of the Davao Region Football Association (DRFA), said will take part 2 of the course in November and hopes to pass it with flying colors.

"Ang AFC A first time nila gihimo na duha ka parts ang 30 days (This is the first time that the 30-day AFC A course was split into two parts)," she said in a Facebook interview.

She said the 15-day first part covered theory from 8 a.m. to 12 noon then practical from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., adding that she took two written exams (theory and specific) and three practical exams. She needed to pass at least two practicals.

Delos Reyes, an AFC B-licensed coach, said: "Daghan mi assignments na i-accomplish before mag-start ang Part 2 (We have to accomplish a lot of assignments before starting Part 2). I have to submit a training logbook, recorded interview of a leader, training drills and a dissertation topic."

She also said that earning an AFC A license is difficult as it would require handling semi-pro to professional team just like those entered in the Philippine Football League (PFL).

Delos Reyes explained if she passes the AFC A course, she could pursue a career as a coach or as an instructor.

In Mindanao, she added, only Melchor Anzures and Albert Ryan Lim are AFC A-licensed coaches in Mindanao.

One has to pass AFC C and AFC B courses before he or she can apply for AFC A license.

AFC C-licensed coaches can teach basic football and in grassroots while AFC B coaches can mentor 11-A-Side, college and elite teams.

The AFC C course takes 15 days while AFC B course covers 21 days.
