Department of Agriculture to develop cassava industry in Tawi-Tawi

THE Department of Agriculture (DA) is set to allocate P10 million to develop the cassava industry in Tawi-Tawi, DA Secretary Emmanuel Piñol announced following his interaction with the farmers during his visit at the public market of Bongao, this province.

Piñol was informed by the cassava farmers that they manually grate the grated cassava they are selling at the public market. He also talked to fisher folks.

Bongao Mayor Jimuel Que said there is huge supply since vast track of lands in the province are planted with cassava.

Piñol said the P10 million funds will be used to purchase tractors and graters as well as planting materials to boost the cassava production in Tawi-Tawi.

The DA secretary has inspected the rice and rubber farms of the Lapid-Lapid Irrigators Association in the village of Lapid-Lapid, Bongao.

He was accompanied by Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Director Eduardo Gongona and Janice Desamito-Musali, BFAR director in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
