DepEd-Cordillera gears up for 339,340 students

THE Department of Education (DepEd) in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) is expecting the incoming of at least 339,340 students who have registered early in different schools in the region during the first quarter of the year.

DepEd-CAR has recorded a total of 221,891 students from the elementary level and 117,449 in the secondary level both in public and private schools.

Georaloy Palao-ay, DepEd-CAR public information officer said the number of students who have registered early will help the department prepare for the next school year.

The initial number, however, is expected to increase or decrease during the actual enrolment this summer.

Palao-ay said additional teachers will be deployed to help answer the demand of students for quality education once the number increases.

Palao-ay said several teachers are undergoing training programs of DepEd to prepare them for the next school year.

A stand alone senior high school is currently under construction and completion in Irisan, Baguio City, which is believed to be one of the biggest senior high schools in the country when it becomes fully operational.

From school year 2016-2017, there were 889 teachers in senior high school in the region with 493 in the public schools and 396 in the private schools.

Laboratory schools of state universities and colleges are not included in these numbers.
