Detainee escapes from police custody

THE local police launched a manhunt in a bid to recapture a detainee who escaped from the custody of an investigator at the Halls of Justice in Zamboanga City.

The subject of the manhunt operation is Marvin Francisco, 27, a resident of the village of Sta. Catalina, this city, according to Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) Director Luisito Magnaye.

Magnaye said Francisco escaped around 1:20 p.m. Monday, December 19, from the custody of Police Officer 1 Ronnie Boy Torres, an investigator of the Police Station 11, while they were at the Halls of Justice in the village of Sta. Barbara.

He said Torres was waiting for the promulgation of a court resolution and issuance of commitment order when Francisco escaped from his custody.

Francisco is facing charges for violation of Republic Act 6539 otherwise known as the Anti-Carnapping Act of 1972.

Magnaye said Francisco was recently arrested by the anti-carnapping unit of ZCPO in the village of Sta. Catalina.

He ordered the Special Investigation Unit to investigate Torres to determine how Francisco was able to escape from his custody. (Bong Garcia/Sunnex)
