Dike erosion threatens village in Apalit

APALIT -- Some 25 households from this fourth district town are now at risk after a huge breach was seen in the portion of Arnedo dike here.

Homeowners of the Barangay Cansinala are now calling for immediate intervention from the local government and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) as the said breach is posing massive danger not only to the residents but to motorists as well.

Ramos Don Pepito, who raised his concern in his Facebook account, said the livelihood and development of the said coastal barangays are hampered since the road was closed to public.

“Huwag po natin kalimutan ang Cansinala sa inyong mga programa. Nang dahil po sa daan na natibag na ito, napigil ang asenso ng bawat mamamayan. Nawala ang lahat dahil hindi na pwede daanan ang daan na ito (Please do not forget Cansinala in your programs. The community's progress was hampered because of this road. Everything is gone because we can't pass on it),” he said.

Allegedly, the said breach started deteriorating as early as last year and has consumed almost half of the Arnedo dike.

The residents are now worried that the breach may worsen especially that the rainy season is coming and there is a threat of La Niña.

The 25 homeowners, who are at great risk are also hopeful that concerned agencies will provide immediate action on the matter as it concerns lives, especially children, who are the ones in peril.
