CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The Department of Interior and Local Government regional office (DILG-3) is enjoining all local government units (LGUs) in Central Luzon to strictly implement and observe Republic Act 10361 otherwise known as Domestic Workers Act or "Batas Kasambahay."
In an interview, DILG-3 LGOO IV Glenn Cosio said that LGUs, specifically village chiefs, play an important role in the registration of all "kasambahays" in their respective areas.
He stressed that village chiefs and LGU officials should require every employer to register domestic workers in the Kasambahay Masterlist or the Registry of Domestic Workers.
Cosio said the start-up registration of domestic workers in this city is slated on July 28 this year.
"A kasambahay must be treated as a family member considering their services and concern accorded to every family they serve. That is why we encourage everyone to support the Kasambahay Law," he said.
One of the salient provisions of the Kasambahay Law states that a domestic worker should be covered by the Social Security System, Employees Compensation Commission, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and Pag-IBIG after one month of service under an employer.
