Dismissed cop arrested for swindling
A DISMISSED police inspector was arrested in Marikina on Tuesday, March 27, for allegedly posing as a police official in order to swindle other police officers.
Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director Guillermo Eleazar said former police inspector Jay-are Olaguera, 32 was arrested in an entrapment operation in his house in Barangay Nangka in Marikina.
He said the operation stemmed from a complaint coming from Superintendent Roland Bulalacao, an officer assigned in Camp Crame who said Olaguera used the name of Senior Superintendent Benito Ramos and asked him to send him P3,000 through Smart Money Padala.
Recovered from the suspect were assorted peso bills and a cellular phone which he allegedly used in his swindling activities.
Meantime, Chief Inspector Jefferson Ison, class president and Olaguera’s classmate at the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) said after graduating in 2007, they underwent training before finally entering the PNP but the latter was declared absent without leave when he was assigned at the Police Regional Office in Autonomous Region in the Muslim Midanao.
In 2008, he said Olaguera was dropped from the rolls of the PNP Directorate for Personnel Records Management.
“After which he did not communicate with any of our classmates and speculations on his whereabouts started to come out. Few years later, several members of the class have received various text messages from him and his wife asking for financial assistance. As his classmates, hindi po kami nagkulang sa kanya. May mga kaklase kaming tumulong sa kanya financially at nag-offer pa sa kanya ng trabaho si Lakan Aclan even assisted him to be a security officer pending his reinstatement sa PNP,” he said.
“Our classmates did not hesitate to extend their assistance until they become suspicious and noticed that the text messages became more and more frequent. Few years more, we received more troubling complaints from other Lakans (both upperclassmen and underclassmen) that Olaguera and his wife were sending them SMS messages and FB messages. One of our classmate even complained that Olaguera’s wife created a fake FB account using her name and photos to extort money from other Lakans. And finally last year, Olaguera’s wife was arrested by NCRPO for pretending as a PNP Officer belonging to PNPA class 2009,” he added.
Ison said they are condemning Olaguera’s illegal activities which is an obvious disrespect of the institution’s reputation and gross disregard to their treasured brotherhood.
He said such involvement of their fellow Lakans in illegal activities not only tarnish their reputation as a PNPA graduates but also the entire institution.
He urged the other victims to come out and file complaint against their batchmate.
“Our class denounces his acts and a resolution will be endorsed for his dismembership in our class to be forwarded to the PNPAAAI for the same purpose. We have chosen to take this difficult and hard choice of letting him suffer and pay for the crimes that they have committed and for them to be accountable not only to us but to the law we all vowed to respect and enforce. We believe that no one is above the law and again to show that we do not tolerate his illegal acts against our fellow Lakans,” Ison said. (SunStar Philippines)
