DOJ indicts Maguindanao vice mayor

THE Department of Justice (DOJ) has recommended the filing of cases against Maguindano Vice Mayor Abdulwahab Sabal, an alleged 'narco-official' who was on President Rodrigo Duterte's "narco list."

In a resolution released by the DOJ on Tuesday night, it said it has found probable cause to charge Sabal, his wife Mohanna and his two other companions Nasser Maulana and Norodin Abas with illegal possession of firearms and explosive or for violation of the RA 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act).

The DOJ said Mohanna will face another case for violation of the RA 9125 or the dangerous drugs act of 2002 after the police seized from her 12 sachets of shabu (metamphetamine hydrochloride).

The resolution was signed by Assistant State Prosecutor Gino Santiago and approved by Senior Deputy State Prosecutor Richard Anthony Fadullon and Prosecutor General Claro Arellano.

Sabal and his group were arrested by the police from Anti-Illegal Drug Group (AIDG) unit at the Cotabato Airport in Datu Odin Sinsuat town last September 8.

Seized from them were an improvised explosive device (IED), two hand grenades, an M16 rifle, and a 45-caliber revolver.

The vice mayor was in Duterte’s list of alleged narco officials.

In the President's speech on August 7, he disclosed to the public the names of about 52 mayors and vice mayors (former and incumbent), 3 congressmen, 95 police and military officers allegedly involved in illegal drug trade. (Sunnex)
