DOJ indicts Quiapo road-rage suspect for murder, physical injury

THE Department of Justice (DOJ) has indicted the former army reservist responsible for the killing of a cyclist in Quiapo, Manila last July 25.

In an 8-page resolution issued Tuesday, the DOJ has recommended the filing of cases against Vhon Martin Tanto after it found probable cause to charge the suspect with murder for killing cyclist Mark Vincent Garalde after a road-rage altercation in P. Casal street in Quiapo.

The DOJ, however, downgraded the frustrated murder complaint against Tanto for allegedly hitting 18-year-old college student Rocel Bondoc with a stray bullet to serious physical injury.

The DOJ recommended the filing of cases after it gave weight to the account of an eye witness Bryan Yu and on Tanto's admission that he killed Garalde.

The resolution was signed by Senior Deputy State Prosecutor Theodore Villanueva and Prosecutor General Claro Arellano.

Tanto is now detained at the Homicide Section of the Manila Police District after he surrendered to Masbate police last July 29.

The case of the former army reservist went controversial after a video footage showing their fist fight after a road altercation went viral on social media. (Sunnex)
