DOJ won't probe 'LeniLeaks'

THE Department of Justice (DOJ) will not be probing the issue involving Vice President Leni Robredo and her supporters' alleged plot to oust President Rodrigo Duterte.

Earlier reports alleged that members of a group called Global Filipino Diaspora Council (GFDC) – including billionaire philanthropist Loida Nicolas-Lewis and her sister, former Commission on Filipinos Overseas Chairperson Imelda Nicolas – have been pushing for Duterte's ouster as they want Robredo to sit as Chief Executive.

The alleged ouster plot by Nicolas-Lewis' group was disclosed by a certain pro-Duterte website over the weekend. However, the information contained in the posts, including email exchanges within GFDC, are yet to be proven authentic.

"She (Nicolas-Lewis) is just making noise to make VP Leni the President," Aguirre said on Monday, in reaction to the "leakage" of the alleged oust plot versus Duterte.

According to Aguirre, conspiring to call for the President's resignation is not illegal, but overthrowing an administration is a violation of the law.

"You could make a movement for resignation of the President but it is one thing to overthrow," Aguirre said.

Dubbed as “LeniLeaks,” the issue is now being probed by Malacañang.

Following the issue about the alleged plot, Aguirre said he is inclined to believe reports that Robredo and Senator Leila de Lima stayed at Lewis’ home during their visit in the United States last 2016. (Sunnex)
