Donaire returns to Cebu to train

NONITO Donaire Jr. will wind up his training in the Philippines for his fight against a Frenchman on July 18.

Donaire Jr. is training at the ALA Boxing Gym in Cebu for his fight against Anthony Settoul, one of the featured bouts in a Top Rank Inc. show in Macau on July 18.

Nonito Donaire Sr., the boxer’s father and trainer, told Sun.Star Cebu they have been in Cebu for that past few days and have already had sparring sessions at the ALA Boxing Gym. Donaire Jr. sparred for four rounds with promising unbeaten prospect Mark Magsayo last Saturday.

Donaire Sr. said that his son will resume sparring today.

Donaire Jr. held part of his camp in his last fight, against William Prado, at the ALA Boxing Gym before finishing his preparation in Manila.

Donaire Jr. bounced back from a sixth round technical knockout to Nicholas Walters with an easy second round stoppage of Prado last March at the Araneta Coliseum in Pinoy Pride 30.

Settoul is unknown to the world boxing scene. He, however, is a former France and European Union bantamweight champion.

Settoul is coming off a first-round stoppage victory over Ignac Kassai but lost by majority decision to Omar Lamiri before that.

Donaire Jr. is 34-3 with 22 knockouts, while Settoul is 20-3 with eight knockouts. Donaire Jr. is hoping to land another crack at a world title, possibly against World Boxing Association (WBA) super bantamweight king Scott Quigg. Edri Aznar
