DOTr, Neda to review results of study for Cebu LRT

TRANSPORTATION experts from Singapore have completed their feasibility study on the proposed P170-million light rail transit (LRT) in Cebu.

Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Michael Lloyd Dino confirmed on Tuesday, June 20, that results of the comprehensive study will be submitted for review to the National Economic and Development Authority (Neda) and the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

Dino said the LRT project will not cost a single centavo to the public since such will be implemented through a DOTr-Public Private Partnership.

The Japan International Cooperation Agency funded the feasibility study.

Dino said the best way to decongest Metro Cebu of traffic is to build the LRT from Minglanilla to Mactan-Cebu International Airport, with a subway in the Mactan Channel.

In his State of the Nation Address, President Rodrigo Duterte announced that he wants to implement the railway system for Cebu during his administration. (GMD/SunStar Cebu)
