DPWH told to finish drainage construction

BACOLOD City Councilor Ricardo Tan asked the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to finish soon the construction and rehabilitation of the drainage system in the city.

Tan said on Thursday, September 28, that for several months now, excavations in various areas conducted by DPWH contractors along the major and minor roads have been observed.

“Delays in the completion of these excavations do not only disturb the flow of traffic along the major roads and highways, but also hamper the business activities of various commercial establishments,” he said.

Tan noted that these excavations, which consist mainly of open canals, have likewise proven to be the causes of various vehicular and other forms of accidents.

He added that recently, these excavations even contributed to flooding in various places such as Barangays Mandalagan and Singcang-Airport because these are simply left open and detached from the existing drainage system.
