Driver in Alegria car crash posts bail

THE driver of the van that crashed into a mahogany tree in Alegria town, Cebu, killing seven of his passengers and injuring three others, has gained temporary liberty past 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 24, after he posted a P40,000 bail.

Senior Inspector Efren Diaz, Alegria Police Station chief, said Gilbert Adlawan dela Cruz posted bail, after the reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide and physical injuries cases was filed in Municipal Circuit Trial Court (MCTC) Malabuyoc.

Dela Cruz, a resident of Argao, Cebu, was brought to inquest proceeding at the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor in Cebu City on Tuesday, January 23.

He opted not to undergo preliminary investigation and file a counter-affidavit.

The fatalities were Aurora Gagni, Joseph Huang, Juvella Huang, Nunilo Rubio, Rey Pascual, Berniti Rojas and Diana Pascual.

Elenita Rubio, Leonor Tsai, and Fred Tsai were injured. They were brought to a private hospital in Cebu City.
