DTI-NegOcc pushes for business expansion thru franchise system

THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Negros Occidental is pushing for expansion of business operations among enterprises in the province through the franchise system.

Engiemar Tupas, senior trade and industry development specialist of DTI-Negros Occidental, Wednesday, April 19, said franchising provides local enterprises the opportunity to expand their respective markets.

“Franchising is one of the potential practices that allow our micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to grow,” Tupas said, adding that the growing franchising industry also contribute to the development of the local economy as it helps generate more jobs.

To further boost MSMEs in the province, the agency is initiating a seminar on how to franchise business at the Sugarland Hotel in Bacolod City on April 26.

DTI-Negros Occidental said the activity is aimed at promoting business operations expansion through franchising.

This will provide participants the insight and tools to be able to get a good franchise business, it added.

The resource speaker is Armando Bartolome, considered as the country’s franchise guru.

Bartolome has assisted numerous entrepreneurs whose brand names are now known in the country like the Julie’s Bakeshop, Generika Drugstore, Gingersnaps, Fiorgelato Ice Cream, Potato Corner, Laybare Waxing Salon, Lots’ A Pizza, Mang Inasal, Brothers Burger, Ahead Tutorial and Review Center, and Freska Ilonggo Seafood, and a host of 880 other brands.

Bartolome was chosen as one of the 34 “angelpreneurs” of Go Negosyo, or those entrepreneurs volunteering to mentor other people nationwide.

Aside from the Philippines, he has been giving seminars for both public and private agencies in other countries in Asia, Middle East, and North America as well as in Southern France.

Also, Bartolome has given back-to-back seminars with Francis Kong, Bo Sanchez, Anthony Pangilinan, Ardy Roberto, and other known personalities in the field of business.

DTI-Negros Occidental said target participants for the seminar are those who have already products and services that are ready for franchise, or who are willing to have a franchise of various brands.

The seminar is free, but slots are limited thus, interested participants are urged to confirm participation on or before April 21 through the agency's hotlines 432-7223 or 434-7920.
