Duterte reveals Ramon Ang is a campaign donor

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte revealed Tuesday that business tycoon Ramon Ang of the San Miguel group had given him campaign money, which he said was “enough to finance one trip.”

At the Christmas Party with some employees of the Office of the President held Tuesday night at the Malacañang grounds, Duterte revealed that Ang was among the individuals who had provided him funds during the campaign for the May 9 presidential elections.

“You know very well that nobody really campaigned for me, or at least some… And a few people who believed in me. Ramon Ang gave me some money – not too big but not too small. But [that’s] enough to finance one trip here, one trip there,” the President said.

“Ramon, we became fast friends because he has this disarming attitude of humility. You will really be disarmed that’s why became fast friends,” he added.

Duterte, however, did not elaborate how much had been given to him by Ang.

He also clarified that he did not compel the businessman to grant him campaign funds, reiterating that it was fine for him even though only a few supported his presidential bid.

“I did not [ask for it]. You can ask all of them if I asked for it,” Duterte said. (Sunnex)
