SUPPORTERS of President Rodrigo Duterte in Cebu will hold a caravan tomorrow to call for the resignation of Senator Leila de lima.
In a press conference yesterday, Lawyer Noel Felongco, PDP-Laban Central Visayas chapter president, said that the caravan, which will be held simultaneously in different parts of the country, will be attended by various groups supporting the President.
The caravan, which will start at 7 a.m., will go around Metro Cebu and will converge at the Cebu Business Park where a rally will be held.
Felongco said that the caravan is not only meant to call for de Lima’s resignation but it is also intended to ask the senator’s political party, Liberal Party, to stop its alleged plans to destabilize the Duterte administration.
“For the sake of the country, for peace and development, hunonga nana ninyo,” said Felongco.
Dr. Rowena Burden of the Cebu for Duterte Group said that they will also welcome supporters from other presidential candidates during the last elections who may have decided to support the Duterte administration.
Aside from activities in Metro Cebu, Duterte supporters from the towns of Madridejos in Bantayan Island, Dalaguete and in Camotes Island, and in Danao City will also hold their activities.
Meeting
Meanwhile, Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III said that Duterte sought the help of local chief executives in a meeting last Sept. 21 in Davao City.
Duterte invited local chief executives, including Davide, as part of the President’s “Sulong Filipinas” call in the country’s fight against corruption and illegal drugs.
During the meeting, Davide said that the President also reiterated his assurance to support the police force.
With the support that Duterte is giving to the police, Davide said that the Cebu Province has also been supporting the President’s campaign against illegal drugs through the Cebu Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Commission.
The governor said that the President also requested them to give him more time to solve the illegal drug problem beyond the six-month period that he had promised during the elections campaign.
Davide believed that solving the illegal drug problem in the country needs more than six months.
“But it’s taking effect, kanang iyang pronouncement, kanang hitabo ron, kanang fight against drugs, PNP especially, unprecedented, imagine pila na ang ni surrender, encounters with drug personalities,” said Davide.
During the meeting, Davide said that Duterte once again mentioned the alleged involvement of retired police general and now Daanbantayan Mayor Vicente Loot in the illegal drugs.
“Ang ako lang kining mga accusations tubagon na lang niya (For me, he just have to answer the accusations),” Davide said.
