Duterte to make changes in Cabinet secretaries

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte will make some changes among his Cabinet secretaries as he is constrained to let go of some who are not making it easier to run the government.

"A few have to go," the President said in a conversation in his house on Sunday, August 27, to meet with a godchild just before he flew off to Manila.

He named two, but the identities have to be withheld.

"Mahirap kasi, lumalabas na ang conflict of interest (It’s hard, conflict of interest is coming out)," he said.

Meanwhile, the President again admitted he is having a difficult time with his promise to clean government of graft and corruption and illegal drugs because both are well-embedded into the system of government.

"I would say 40 percent of the police are on the take," he said when asked how big a problem he is having with the police force.

Duterte said while he promised to help policemen who get in trouble in the performance of duties, those who use their uniforms to commit crimes have to face the law.

Despite the hurdles he is facing, he is firm on pursuing his promise till a modicum of success has been achieved.

"We cannot remove all of them, but at least, graft and corruption and drugs will be at the barest minimum," he said.

Duterte repeated that the very reason why he deemed it ill-timed to hold the barangay elections is because he is aware that drug money will be infused into it.

"And then we will have more of them, it's like going back to where we started," he added.
